Helping Hands app for iPhone and iPad

This app, created by 12th grader Vyomm Khanna, is a scheduling and coordinating tool for volunteers of the
Helping Hands initiative at Strawberry Fields High School Chandigarh.

We aim to provide the best possible education for all our children regardless of gender, caste, religion, nationality, home circumstances or ability.

For this to happen, the school and its curriculum need to be equally accessible to all. Each parent and pupil must feel equally ‘at home’. As you are aware, the school conscientiously follows the RTE Act 2010 and admits 25% students from the economically weaker sections of society. For the school to fulfill the above equal opportunities policy, we need the support of all stakeholder and most importantly our parents.
We believe, that as a community, we are all deeply connected and our well-being and success are interdependent. Keeping this in mind, in the past, we successfully involved our parents and alumni to help us meet some of the academic challenges our EWS students were facing in the Middle School. The volunteers for Helping Hands, a free of charge, after-school remedial programme have indeed made a huge difference to the learning proficiency of the target group of students.

We would like you to come forward and volunteer your time for this cause. Details about the same are as follows:
Days of class: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday Timings of class: 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Students of classes: 5 / 6 / 7
A very basic knowledge of English, Science, Social Studies and Math is required. Detailed lesson plans are provided well in time to allow for easy preparation and implementation of the lesson. You could volunteer to come for 1 day or opt for 2 days or opt to come for all 3 depending on the time you are willing to invest. However, please note that you would be required to come for all the 4 Mondays of the month in case you choose Monday and likewise for Tuesday and Wednesday. We do not hold these classes through the summer, winter, autumn vacations and in the exam months. Kindly specify the specific day / days that you would like to opt for.

This year the helping hands program has a lot of importance, as some of the children have not had the opportunity to attend the online classes in the last academic session. Your role as a volunteer will be greatly valued and appreciated.
